    Hi,

I just have to saw wow – this website is very impressive. I am a member of the Victoria LETS in BC Canada and we are thinking about upgrading our website. I have been playing with a few ideas and for the last few days been considering the possibility of creating a LETS module for php-nuke. So I must admit I am quite surprised to see that it has already been done!

I’m curious about how difficult it has been to setup. I’m not very advanced with php and MySQL but am willing to learn.

Our current website is at http://www.lets.victoria.bc.ca/

I have been playing with the Ottawa LETS WebLETS at http://www.the-portal.org/lets/ and php-nuke at http://www.the-portal.org/lets/nuke/html/

I only came across php-nuke a few days ago but find it amazing to work with.

Any advice on the LETS-php-nuke combination would be very appreciated.

    Cheers

Hi, I just have to saw wow – this website is very impressive

Welcome to LETS Forum, and thank you!

…I have been playing with a few ideas and for the last few days been considering the possibility of creating a LETS module for php-nuke. So I must admit I am quite surprised to see that it has already been done!

Rather than reinvent the wheel, I looked around available Postnuke modules, and am using the address book module by Thomas Smiatek. I don’t think its available for PHP-nuke – might be worth your while taking a look at Postnuke (http://www.postnuke.com ) – its rather more flexible (and collaboratively developed) than PHP-nuke.

I’m curious about how difficult it has been to setup. I’m not very advanced with php and MySQL but am willing to learn.

PNaddressbook is well documented and fairly simple to setup with categories for Directory etc . My PHP/MySQLskills are fairly rudimentary too!

I only came across php-nuke a few days ago but find it amazing to work with. Any advice on the LETS-php-nuke combination would be very appreciated.

Hope the above is helpful – http://opensourcecms.com/ is a useful site if you want to test drive various free CMSs like Postnuke and PHP-nuke without having to install them.

Hehe, I’m embarassed. It was late last night and I saw php-nuke instead of PostNuke at the bottom of the page.

Does the modified address book offer most of the functions a stand alone LETS (Like the Ottawa WebLETS)? Feel free to check the one I have installed out at http://www.the-portal.org/lets/. The user login is admin/test and the admin login uses the password, “password”.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions and the quick reply!

The modified address book supports user modification of entries and freely definable custom fields.
I just had a quick look at Ottawa WebLETS – it looks really comprehensive. Is the script Open Source and available for download? If so I wouldn’t mind having a play with it

Thanks a lot for the suggestions and the quick reply!

You’re very welcome – always happy to share ideas and knowledge with other LETS enthusiasts.

Yes the weblets is Open Source and you can download it at http://sourceforge.net/projects/weblets/

It is a very comprehensive system. I would love to use the code to establish a module for postnuke that provided all the same functions. It’s no doubt a big task but it sure would be amazing.

So do the users here manually edit their own account balances after a trade?

Great. Have grabbed it and will investigate further.

Nukewrapper2 http://mods.postnuke.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=2290&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0 might do the job without too much hassle – will be looking into this myself.

At the moment we’re not logging transactions at all, just displaying directory entries which are editable by verified users.

That does look like a much easier solution that a bunch of recoding! Very exciting. Thanks :-) I’ll post an update if/when I get it working.

I ended up using php-nuke because I couldn’t get the postnuke calendar to work. php-nuke has a module called NukeWrap that allows a page to appear in the main frame.

If you end up using the WebLETS you are welcome to the files I’ve changed. Mainly it was editing the html for better formatting and adding some new classes to the css for easier changes. There is one problem I’ve uncovered with it. The WebLETS is different from our current system as well as most I’ve seen in that a member can have multiple accounts. This could be handy if you belong to an organization with an account as well as your own personal account. It can also be used so that a family shares one account.

The problem is when an account is closed. The member can still post advertisements on the account even though they can’t trade. The admin can’t even delete these ads from their menu but can log into the members account to do it. Its not a major problem and shouldn’t be too hard to fix.

http://www.the-portal.org/lets/nuke/html/ is the semi-completed site. If the membership likes it we will move it to our current domain at some point.

Thanks again for the helpful suggestions.
