ParticipantHi all: i’m a newbie here from Nottingham. i’ve been a on-off member since 1991 in the Nott’m Group. i used to use the Lets Holiday Directory in the past but unfortunately, lost the booklet and have not been able to get a replacement/or up-to-date one (last time i use it was 5yrs ago!). Does anyone know if it’s still available, if so where from.
i used to have quite a few experiences up and down the country visiting vaious walking places, and have met some really nice hospitable ppl.thanx in advance for any ideas or advice given

KeymasterI also remember the Holiday LETS Directory from back in 1996 or thereabouts – a few of our members on Falmouth LETS were on it. I think it was run by William Croom-Johnson somewhere in the north.
There were attempts to revive it in Devon, but I don’t think anything ever got off the ground.

ParticipantDear Brenx and ?Rob
Yes it was Will Croom-Johnson. I just called him and he is alive and well and living in Shropshire, but he confirmed what I suspected that the Holiday LETS project died some time ago. It seems to me that this is something we could handle via Offers & Wants lists on regional websites like the Southwest one and the London one, maybe even a UK one, using a common currency, eg Celts, Links, and/or a national currency. We have had some enquiries from people wanting to start LETS on the continent so it’s possible we could make some holiday connections through them.
Roll on the regional currencies and automated transacting!!

ParticipantHi Mary & Rob: thanks for your replies. yes, i do remember speaking to William some yrs ago (i was going to stay in his abode over xmas but changed my mind when i it was miles outta town!). well, as there’s no such thing anymore, then i’ll put myself on the Offer list and see what comes up. i’m already doing something similiar called:
tho’ it’s free. it’s an international site, and there’s quite a few entries in each UK county. i’ve just done a visit down in London last w/e, in a student’s house. very messy, but hospitable though! as soon as my profile came up, i had requests from all over almost instantly!

James Taris’s site http://www.lets-linkup.com is worth a look. He’s on his world tour (see news article on main page) and will be staying here in Falmouth next week
Cheers,
Rob

You can find some accommodation on this french version of a LETS site http://www.survivefrance.com/
It is a lively site with a lot of ex-pats contributing.

Thanks, Mike. SEL (French equivalent of LETS) is also quite widespread in France – http://www.selidaire.org
